Support Groups

Rutherford Regional is committed to serving the healthcare information needs of the community. The following services may be of interest to you:

Cancer Resource Center

Patients and visitors are welcome to utilize the Cancer Resource Center located at OneSource Healthcare (across from Belk at the mall) Call 828-245-4596 for more information. Resources include:

  • Wigs and prosthetics, provided by the American Cancer Society
  • Turbans, hand made by the Rutherford Regional Auxiliary
  • A variety of teaching models for hands-on education for disease prevention
  • Internet access for on-line research, videos, posters, books, and more
  • Many items may be checkout for educational purposes

Diabetes Support Group

This is an educational and support group for 
diabetes, their families, and friends. They meet at 7:00 pm, the second Thursday in odd-numbered moths (except for July). For more information call 828-286-5501.

Living with Diabetes

This is an outpatient program designed for adults with Type I or Type II Diabetes. The program provides the information and training needed to make healthy lifestyle choices. For more information call 828-286-5501.

Empty Arms Support Group

The Empty Arms Support Group meets every other month at the Glenn House. The support group offers support to those who have lost a baby through miscarriage, fetal demise, preterm birth and stillbirth. We have an annual memorial service to remember the babies that families have lost through miscarriage, fetal demise, preterm birth and stillbirth. Anyone is welcome to attend. Great Expectations - Prepared Childbirth Classes

These sessions cover pregnancy, fetal development, labor, delivery, care of the newborn, and parenting skills.

Cancer Supportive Programs

One in three Americans is touched by cancer in their lifetime.  Support from fellow cancer survivors can be an invaluable resource to patients and their families.  Rutherford Regional, in association with The American Cancer Society, offers many supportive programs to assist patients as they journey through their treatment for cancer.  

The Pink Ladies is a great group of cancer survivors who meet once a month to share information and provide support to women who have been diagnosed with cancer. For more information or to register for the next meeting, please call 828-245-4596.

Reach to Recovery Specially trained breast cancer survivors are available to offer information, understanding, support and hope to those who have been newly diagnosed. For more information, or to schedule a visit, please call 828-245-4596 or 800-ACS-2345.

Look Good...Feel Better is a free program that teaches beauty techniques to female patients who are receiving treatment for cancer. To register for the next group session, please call 828-245-4596

Man to Man offers a supportive setting for men who are facing prostate cancer to meet and share information. The group meets once a month, registration is required, please call 828-655-1937 or 800-ACS-2345.

Road to Recovery offers volunteers who will transport patients to and from their treatments for cancer. Patients must be ambulatory. To schedule transportation or to learn more about volunteering for the program, please call 800-ACS-2345.

Dietician on Call offers free, professional and personalized nutrition counseling for cancer patients. To request a referral, please call 888-227-6333.

Exercise For Life helps cancer patients overcome treatment related fatigue through an exercise program supervised by an Exercise Physiologist. For more information, please call OneSource Rehab at 828-247-1588.

Lymphedema Treatment is available by a certified lymphedema therapist to reduce swelling that may occur after surgery for cancer. A physician's order is required. For more information, please call OneSource at 828-247-1588.

Cancer Prevention and Early Detection

Breast & Cervical Cancer Early Detection program (BCCCP) provides FREE breast and cervical cancer screenings for women who have no health insurance (or limited health insurance) and who meet certain age and income guidelines. For more information please call 828-287-6100.
