Finding Purpose After Heart Surgery: Lula’s Cardiac Rehab Journey
September 16, 2025
One year ago, Lula underwent a complicated and invasive heart procedure at another facility. Like many patients facing recovery after heart surgery, she was unsure of what life would look like moving forward. That’s when she was referred to Rutherford Regional Health System's Cardiac Rehabilitation Program—a turning point in her health journey.
“When I first started, I had never even been on a treadmill,” Lula shared. “The team made me feel comfortable and at ease every step of the way.”
Over the months, Lula not only regained strength and confidence—she also discovered something unexpected: a sense of family.
“Cardiac rehab gave me a purpose and a reason to stay healthy. I look forward to coming every week, not just for the exercise, but for the friends I’ve made here.”
Now in Phase 4 of the program, Lula continues to attend sessions each week. For her, the experience has become more than just rehabilitation—it’s about connection, community, and lasting lifestyle change. She often describes the Rutherford team as “like family” and says she’s grateful for the friendships she’s built with other participants in the program. Today, Lula is thriving, and her story is a testament to how cardiac rehab can empower patients to reclaim their health and find renewed purpose..jpg)
