The surgical incision of eardrum to allow drainage and relieve pressure. A small plastic tube is inserted into the middle ear through the incision to equalize pressure on both sides of the eardrum.
- You may be placed on a special diet.
- Keep all water out of ears. Put cotton balls in ears when washing hair. Use wax or ear plugs when swimming. Earache and/or fever less than 101 degrees F is common during the first 2-3 days past surgery.
Contact your doctor if any of the following occurs:
- Fever of 101 degrees F or above.
- More than a few drops of bright blood from the ears.
If unable to contact your doctor and feel you have an emergency, go the Emergency Department.
