Family Information Sheet

  • After your family member goes upstairs to the OR (Operating Room) holding area, please go upstairs to the Surgery Waiting Area.
  • Use the elevators in the Outpatient Lobby, and go upstairs to the GROUND floor.  Press "g" when you get on the elevator.  This is directly across from the elevators.
  • You should have a pager.  Please give your pager number to the Volunteer in the Surgery Waiting Area.  You may walk around the Hospital, go to the cafeteria or gift shop.  Your pager will reach in each of those areas.
  • The OR will call out to the Surgery Waiting Area and let you know when your family member is
  1. In the OR
  2. Comfortable
  3. The approximate time the procedure will start.
  • The OR will update you every hour after the first time as best as possible.  If the surgery is shorter than one hour, you'll only receive one (1) phone call.
  • Following the procedure, the doctor will come out and speak with you.
  • During this time, your family member will be in the Recovery Room for 20 minutes to an hour.
  • Once the doctor has spoken with you, please come back to the Outpatient Lobby (use elevator at Surgery Waiting Area and press "LL") and wait to be paged.  If your family member is to be admitted, please wait in the Surgery Waiting Area until a room has been assigned.  Once your family member has been taken to their room, then you may visit them and take them their belongings.
  • After leaving the Recovery Room, your family member will come back to their Outpatient Room in which they started.  Once they are comfortable, the Outpatient Nurse will page you back to their room.
  • If there are any delays prior to your family member being taken to the OR Holding Area, the Outpatient Nurses will do their best to keep you and your family member updated.  Thank you for understanding in advance.
  • If you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to ask one of us.  We want to make sure that you and your family are as comfortable as possible, and that you have the best experience possible.
  • For questions or concerns, please feel free to speak with the Patient and Family Support Liaison.
