RUTHERFORD REGIONAL ANNOUNCES IT DOESN'T USE EQUIPMENT ASSOCIATED WITH REGIONAL, NATIONAL "SUPERBUG"

February 27, 2015

RUTHERFORDTON – Recent news reports linking certain surgical equipment to the “superbug” bacteria Carbapenem-resistant Enterobacteriaceae (CRE) has prompted Rutherford Regional Health System (RRHS) to announce that it does not utilize the duodenoscopes associated with those infections.

Episodes of CRE caused by certain brands of duodenoscopes first were reported in California and then most recently were discovered in the Charlotte, NC, region. Although CRE can be transmitted by other means like unclean hands, devices and objects in the patient care environment, infection prevention leaders at RRHS are seeking to reassure its patients and community that RRHS does not own or operate the duodenoscopes associated with this outbreak.
