Rutherford Regional welcomed Dr. Paul Mosca of Duke University Health System on June 29 and 30 to share important information about the Duke LifePoint Score Card, which explains measures that drive performance.
Dr. Mosca is a board-certified surgeon who specializes in surgical oncology, general surgery and palliative surgery. At Duke, Dr. Mosca serves as the Physician Quality Officer, Associate Professor of Surgery, and Associate Vice Chair of Network General Surgery.
Speaking to a capacity audience during both presentations, Mosca addressed physicians and mid-level providers, administrators, department leaders, and board members to explain the importance of using the score card to drive high quality results, exceptional patient satisfaction, support of hospital staff, and reduce harms in the hospital setting.
Mosca’s goal was to help attendees understand why these key performance indicators were selected, the methodology for measuring, and the role of key stakeholders in monitoring and championing.
He concluded his presentation with a powerful slide showing that following the score card has consistently proven to reduce patient harms. “Each number on this graph represents a human life, which should bring all of this into clear focus – that, above all else, we do what we do to save lives.”
