RUTHERFORDTON – Becker's Hospital Review released its 2017 list of rising stars in healthcare under the age of 40 and Rebecca Segal, chief executive officer of Rutherford Regional Health System (RRHS), was among those recognized. Segal was named to lead RRHS in January 2017.
In a press release announcing its rising stars, Becker’s said, “The individuals included on this have gone above and beyond to achieve greatness in the healthcare field at a young age. The list includes physicians, hospital and health system executives and healthcare company innovators. Becker's Healthcare is honored to profile individuals who have made an impact on the healthcare system during their short careers and excited to see these individuals shine in the future.”
The Becker's Hospital Review editorial team accepted nominations and conducted an internal review process to select members of this year's list. The list seeks to highlight the accomplishments of outstanding individuals who climbed the ranks within their organizations or founded their own innovative businesses. Many of the Rising Stars have received top honors from professional organizations and impressed their colleagues with expertise well beyond their years.
Segal came to RRHS after serving as COO of Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital since January 2014, during which she provided leadership to multiple departments including surgical services, ambulatory surgery centers, and the hospital’s imaging services and free-standing imaging center, to name a few. She also oversaw the hospital’s physician relations program and was instrumental in recruiting needed specialists to the area and increasing overall physician satisfaction.
Prior to her role at Lake Cumberland, Segal served as assistant administrator for two LifePoint facilities: Danville Regional Medical Center in Danville, Va., and Raleigh General Hospital in Beckley, W.Va.
Upon learning of the honor, Segal said, “It’s certainly gratifying to be recognized for hard work and career accomplishments, and I’m humbled to be mentioned. However, any successful leader will explain that the team she or he assembles is what will determine just how much a leader can accomplish. I’ve been extremely blessed to be surrounded by people who care as much about making communities healthier as I do and I’m looking forward to continuing to grow as a leader and a person.”
