RUTHERFORDTON – The RHI Legacy Auxiliary held its annual meeting and celebrated its 51st Anniversary on November 9, 2016, at the Rutherfordton Clubhouse.
“To say this has been an extraordinary year for our Auxiliary is an understatement,” said Suzanne Holtzclaw, Director of Volunteer Services at Rutherford Regional. “Our volunteers give the priceless contribution of time, talents, comfort and compassion and I thank each and every one of you.”
Treasurer Jimmy Dancy presented the 2016 Annual Report, noting the Auxiliary has reached $3,178,098 in its financial contribution and an accumulated total of over 928,958 hours of service in its 51 years of existence. The Auxiliary presented health and wellness grants totaling $51,590 to the following organizations: Habitat for Humanity, R-S Central High School, Rutherford County Backpack Program, Rutherford Housing Partnership, Rutherford Life Services, Safe Kids Rutherford County, Trinity School, and Welcome Table of Rutherfordton.
James Atkins, RRHS CEO, thanked Auxiliary members for their support and service as volunteers, pointing out that Rutherford Regional volunteers gave 19,808 hours for fiscal year 2015-16. Auxiliary president Darlene Gowan also recognized Alan Marston with Toys for Tots who was in attendance to receive stuffed animals donated by volunteers.
A Service Pin was given to Gregory Hill, the newest Lifetime Member of the Auxiliary. To become a Lifetime Member, a volunteer must have attained 2,000 hours of service.
Volunteers Lib Godfrey, Margaret Burgess, Darlene Gowan, Peggy Wells and Helen Rogers received a Believe and Achieve Butterfly Pin for devoting 5,000 hours and beyond.
Receiving the Extra Mile Award were Auxiliary Treasurer Jimmy Dancy and Auxiliary Secretary Ginger Dancy. The award, which started in 1990, is presented annually to volunteers who give exceptional service and go the extra mile to make a difference. Jimmy Dancy has been volunteering since 2010 contributing over 4,800 hours of service.
Ginger Dancy has been volunteering since 2013 contributing over 4,500 hours of service.
Past recipients of the Extra Mile Award in attendance were Lib and Joe Godfrey, Helen Vickers, Darlene Gowan and Peggy Wells.
